SWK 657 - Evaluation and Treatment of Trauma-Related Conditions 3 credit hours Prerequisites: SWK 610 - Leadership This course provides an in-depth examination into the impacts of trauma on adults, couples/partners, families and communities. Specific attention is given to learning how to access and treat individuals who have been exposed to recent or previous traumatic events. Using multiple case scenarios, participants will be introduced to empirically-supported interventions for treated Acute Stress Disorder and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. They will also learn about the impacts of these conditions on partner relationships and other family members. The course also outlines known efforts to foster resiliency among these individuals and families. This course is not intended to train clinicians how to assess or treat trauma-related conditions among children. The course incorporates Saint Leo University Core Values of community and respect preparing future clinical social workers to treat and inclusively care for all members of society who have been harmed by traumatic events or situations.
