EDU 458 - Assessing and Differentiating Reading Instruction 3 Credits Prerequisite(s): , , , , or or or Corequisite(s): , , , or instructor's permission This course provides the Middle Grades major the opportunity to administer and interpret data to differentiate instruction based on assessments of student learning needs. The pre-service teacher will use a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress and use data-informed analysis to design lessons to enhance 5-9 students' reading ability. They will identify characteristics of struggling and successful readers, as well as students who are English Language Learners. Pre-service teachers will incorporate the use of various strategies in the design of lessons. Special strategies and use of resources for English language learners are infused throughout. Field experiences required.
