HTY 301 - Career Development Seminar

3 credits
Career Development Seminar aims to introduce the wide variety of career paths available to history students. Students will spend significant amounts of time investigating the types of jobs that their major has prepared them for and for which they feel especially well-suited. This is designed to be a hands-on course, meaning that students will not only learn about the many career paths they have as history majors but will experiment in the kinds of specific skills these many different types of employment require. At the end of the semester, students will not only have a much better understanding of how their degrees will serve them in the job market; they will also have a professional résumé and curriculum vitae, perform a mock interview, develop a management strategy, and put together a career portfolio that they can use as evidence of their professional readiness when they begin to seek employment.
