HUS 345 - Social Policy for the Human Services 3 credits Prerequisite(s): Junior standing in Human Services This course attends to the major aspects of social welfare in the United States. The course will focus on the policy-making process, the government and social welfare, and understanding and preventing poverty. Current social welfare programs will be examined in order to ascertain patterns of service provision and evaluating programs to determine effectiveness in meeting human need. The role of social policy in American society and implications for the human services professional are examined. Students will be taught the process of policy formulation and the frameworks for analyzing current social policies utilizing the principles of social and economic justice.
