HON 161 - First Year Seminar II

3 credits

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Honors Program or Permission of Honors Director

This is a variable-content course that prepares students to participate fully in the life of the Honors Program. This course will provide students with opportunities to develop and demonstrate improved skills in the areas of communication, concept application, and experimentation.  Students will engage in activities that allow them to develop unique real or theoretical constructs followed by the testing and evaluation of their constructions.  By focusing on creating order and rules, construct building and evaluating, considering feedback, and the revision process students will become better accustomed to deriving and implementing next steps and increasing flexibility of thought.  Focus will be on quality of work with respect to incorporation of disciplinary norms, creativity, integrity, and effectiveness.   Whenever possible, the course will be team-taught and will adopt an interdisciplinary approach. Course content will align with the major themes of the program related to global citizenship. Further, this course will prepare Honors students with the skills necessary for the more complex inquiry-driven work expected in subsequent, upper-level Honors courses.
