ART 229 - Jewelry Making 3 credits This course is designed to introduce students to metal/mixed media jewelry design as an art form. It is an introduction to the basic techniques necessary for the design and fabrication of jewelry and small three-dimensional forms, using a variety of materials. Students will utilize basic jewelry construction processes—sawing, filing, soldering, finishing, and casting, as well as piercing, surface texturing, enameling, polishing and forming to complete 5-7 projects. Various materials and techniques are explored while learning the fundamentals of contemporary jewelry design. The history of jewelry design is introduced. Students are taught through demonstrations, tutorials, critiques, lecture, presentations, and guided work.
