SWK 210HA - Equity and Justice

3 credits
This course introduces students to historical concepts related to systemic and anti-Black racism. It also exposes students to foundational concepts related to racial consciousness, resistance, resilience, healing, and intersectional solidarity. While racism is a global phenomena, this course focuses particularly on the U.S. context. This course will also introduce students to the established tradition of scholarship focused on Black and Brown experiences and cultural expression. It also seeks to examine the development, spread, and articulations of racism in the United States and around the world. The course employs an intersectional analysis—taking into account how racism is interwoven into other systems of oppression including (but not limited to) sexism, classism, heterosexism and xenophobia.
