CRW 505 - Preparing the Master Thesis

3 credit hours

Prerequisites: Twelve credits in CRW 500 (501, 502, or 503) Workshop and twelve credits in ENG 500 (501, 502, or 503) and six credits in CRW 504: Theory & Practice of Creative Writing
This course encompasses the one-week annual Summer Residency, held in-person on University Campus. The residency is designed as an immersive and contemplative retreat that includes a daily morning workshop where a faculty mentor leads small groups of students in discussing their own creative work that they have submitted for review. The rest of each day allows for bonding time with peers and mentors as well as discussions and activities led by a faculty member, a distinguished visiting writer, or a professional in the writing field, such as an editor or publisher. Each day concludes with readings by faculty members or visiting writers, which are free events that are open to the public. Students also get the chance to share and celebrate their own writing-in-progress with each other during informal open mics. Students must participate in every event of the Summer Residency and will reflect on their experience as a part of this course. The goal of this course is to produce a substantial body of original creative work that is of publishable quality.
