THY 720 - Vatican II 3 credit hours Arguably the most central event in the modern history of the Catholic Church, the Second Vatican Council has been a source of renewal and debate since it was first called for in 1959. In this course, students will engage the context, documents, and debates around Vatican II. Students will focus especially on how to apply the Council's teaching in their particular contexts, work, and ministries. The course will include a select survey of some of the seminal documents promulgated by the Second Vatican Council, a consideration of the historical and theological significance of these documents, and assessment of the importance of the Council for the Church, other faiths and the world in contemporary times.
