The Bachelor of Science (BS) Respiratory Therapy degree program is for practicing respiratory therapists to advance the profession and provide enhanced career opportunities. The online program will provide degree advancement for respiratory therapists who have completed an entry into respiratory care practice degree. Degree Advancement (DA) programs in respiratory care move the respiratory therapy profession towards the goal of the baccalaureate level for entry into the profession to meet the strategic plan of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) to increase the educational level of the workforce (http://www.aarc.org/careers/respiratory_therapy_degree_advancement/)
The program prepares registered respiratory therapists for future roles in respiratory care by expanding the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills beyond those of the entry level registered respiratory therapist (RRT), enhancing their practice. The BS Respiratory Therapy at SLU will be a contemporary respiratory therapy completion program that incorporates best practices and current innovations to prepare current respiratory therapists for future career opportunities.
