The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is a highly competitive program designed for students seeking a contemporary academic experience. The program is geared to students who are health-minded and hands-on, transforming their passion for helping others into valuable nursing skills and dynamic thinking strategies that impact the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
The BSN program is inspired by a "simple-to-complex" curriculum that educates students on the foundations of professional nursing, and then advances to coursework and clinical that include lab, simulation, preceptorships, and on-site health care and community experiences.
The BSN program focuses preparation for entry into practice with emphasis on preparation for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam.
The program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing.
Admission Requirements:
The BSN is a selective, limited-access program. Freshmen are first admitted to Saint Leo University as an undergraduate nursing major, which requires a minimum high school GPA of 2.7 and acknowledgement of background check requirements.
Once a Nursing major, students apply during their sophomore year for nursing-major courses in year three. To do so, students must submit an application the semester prior to the junior year. Requirements include a 3.3 or higher GPA for all coursework taken by the end of the semester prior to the semester for which application is made, a benchmark score on the TEAS test (a standardized exam), and grades of B or higher on Anatomy and Physiology courses and College Algebra. The Anatomy and Physiology with Labs and College Algebra courses must be successfully completed prior to the application deadline. Anatomy and Physiology with Labs must be completed through an approved institution if transferring credit; and is not accepted if taken via Sophia Learning or StraighterLine. Unconditional admission is granted when students have been selected for admission and all admission criteria and health, background check, drug screening requirements and American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification have been successfully completed.
Program Grade and Progression Information:
Students are required to adhere to policies identified in the most current Nursing Student Handbook including those related to satisfactory course completion and program progression.

Technology Competency Skills
Saint Leo University Technology Competency Skills Technology is threaded through our personal, professional, and educational interactions. To successfully manage these interactions - specifically relating to education and employment - our students must have the ability to navigate and operate essential computer functions, beyond social media. Demonstrating competency of basic technology skills is essential for the success of all Saint Leo University students. Saint Leo University requires undergraduate students to demonstrate technology competency prior to degree conferral. These technology competency skills can be satisfied through a waiver exam or academic course (COM-140 or equivalent, earning a grade of C or better within 10 years). Education majors should complete EDU 228: Educational Technology to fulfill the technology requirement. Students should meet with their advisors to discuss options and establish a plan to satisfy the graduation requirement. Technology Competency Skills Waiver Exam: Students may take the technology competency skills waiver exam to satisfy the Saint Leo University technology competency skill requirement. The Waiver Exam tests your knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Windows, and the Internet. The exam is Pass/Fail and you must receive a minimum score of 74% to pass.
